The first day was a Fusion day with seminars and one-to-one meetings. A luncheon was hosted by the Swedish Ambassador to UAE, HE Max Bjuhr and was attended by Nada Yousef Al Hashimi, Director of Investment Dept. at UAE Ministry of Economy. Visits were also made to academic institutions and hospitals. The biotech cluster from Umeå being very strong in academic research, tech transfer and innovation complements the biotech cluster in Dubai which has a strong position in sales, marketing and logistics. By joining forces we aim for both clusters to increase its competiveness on the global market.

"This initiative between Dubiotech and Biotech Umea is a very significant one. Particularly with reference to the current discussion on an MOU between UAE and Sweden that will cover Research, Education and Trade I wish the initiative all success"
“After our visit to Dubai we are looking forward to a prosperous collaboration UAE, initially between Biotech Umeå and DuBiotech. A collaboration where we contribute with our knowledge about innovations, our interesting companies and our expertise within research and health care, while actors from Dubai can contribute with capital, business skills at the same time as they open up a reasonably unknown market for us in Västerbotten. We believe that this could become a starting point to a fruitful collaboration between Sweden and UAE.”
