Microdialysis enables the continuous samplings and measurements of analytes directly from an organ, before they are diluted by other body fluids. The MD technique is fast and can reveal oxygen deprived conditions in the heart muscle in the matter of minutes. During Pernilla's PhD studies she developed a unique MD catheter, Surface MD, which can be placed on the surface of an organ, contrary to the conventional method of penetrating the organ with a needle prior to inserting the catheter into the organ, thus reducing the risk of complications such as bleeding caused by the procedure.
The money from VINN-verifiering will be used to test and adapt Surface MD to actual clinical situations, this is an important step for it to reach clinical acceptance and eventually benefit both individual patients and the health care system as a whole. project at Umeå Biotech Incubator, UBI, and a job as a project leader forinnovationssluss Västerbotten, Region Västebotten's innovation project. With Pernilla's good insights and experiences regarding innovations and the innovation system she has great chances of taking this project all the way.
