Life science business ideas awarded

This award has been designed to stimulate entrepreneurial activity and greater awareness of the resources available to help life science researchers in Umeå. Overall, the quality of the submitted business ideas was very high this year. The winners have now been selected, and they received their awards during a short ceremony in connection with the Life science investment day in Umeå on Dec 8.
1st prize:
Anna Överby Wernstedt  "High quality tick-borne encephalitis antigen for sensitive and specific diagnostic TBEV ELISAs"
Motivation: For a project with a clear focus, that at the same time has the potential to develop further, along with diagnostic applications, within several medically important fields.
2nd prize:
Anders Johansson "Guava (Psidium Guajava) neutralizes Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans leukotoxin – a novel highly specific tool for periodontal therapy"
Motivation: New interesting indications for substances originating in African folk medicine. Well adapted team with good potential to become successful.
3rd prize:
Malin Linder Nording "Ventisensor – A monitor for lung injury during mechanical ventilation"
Motivation: A project where the application of new technology can give important information for clinical treatment of lung diseases. The presentation was very enthusiastic.
